64 Cores, 448 MB Cache, Up To 922W TDP

Intel’s top 5th Gen Emerald Rapids chip, the Xeon Platinum 8592+, with 64 cores and 448 MB cache has been leaked by YuuKi_AnS.

Intel Xeon Platinum 8592+ CPU Is The Top Emerald Rapids Chip With 64 Cores, 128 Threads, 448 MB Cache

Previously, YuuKi_AnS posted the first specifications of the Xeon Platinum 8580 CPU and now we have our second 5th Gen Emerald Rapids leak. The latest leak encompasses Intel’s Xeon Platinum 8592+ which is set to feature 64 cores and 128 threads making it the highest core count Xeon to date with the previous one offering up to 60 cores and 120 threads. These cores are based on the Raptor Cove P-Core architecture but come with massively increased cache sizes.

This chip is a dual-chiplet design with 32 cores on each die and each core comes with 2 MB of L2 cache for up to 128 MB of L2 cache. The chip also features 320 MB of L3 cache which combines to offer a total cache pool of 448 MB. So that’s a 6.6% increase in core/thread count and a 93% uplift in cache count for the Intel Xeon Platinum 8592+ (5th Gen Emerald Rapids) over its Xeon Platinum 8490H (4th Gen Sapphire Rapids) predecessor.

  • Xeon Platinum 8592+ (Emerald Rapids) – 64 Cores / 128 Threads / 448 MB Cache / 3.9 GHz
  • Xeon Platinum 8490H (Sapphire Rapids) – 60 Cores / 120 Threads / 232 MB Cache/ 3.5 GHz
  • EPYC 9754 (Bergamo) – 128 Cores / 256 Threads / 384 MB Cache / 3.10 GHz
  • EPYC 9654 (Genoa) – 96 Cores / 192 Threads / 480 MB Cache / 3.55 GHz

Further diving into the details, this particular chip was running on an existing Eagle Stream platform (LGA 4677) featuring the C741 chipset with 1 TB of DDR5-4800 memory and in a dual-CPU configuration so that’s a total of 128 cores and 256 threads with up to 640 MB of L3 and 256 MB of L2 cache.

The Intel Xeon Platinum 8592+ tested here is a QS (Q3W7) chip with a base clock configured at 1.9 GHz and a boost clock of 3.9 GHz. The chip features a maximum all-core boost clock of 2.9 GHz with TDPs rated at 350W (PL1), an MTP of 420W (PL2) and 500W PL4. The final specs should be +100 MHz higher for both base & boost clocks. The peak power limit is rated at 764W though the chip can also be adjusted down to just 100W or up to 922W. The TjMax for the chip is rated at 98C. The AVX2 frequencies are rated at 3.9 GHz single-core and 2.8 GHz all-core while the AVX-512 clock speeds are rated at 3.7 GHz single-core and 2.6 GHz all-core. To sum things up:

  • Base TDP (PL1) = 350W
  • MTP TDP (PL2) = 420W
  • Peak TDP (PL4) = 500W
  • Power Limit (Stock) = 764W
  • Adjustable Peak Power = 922W

There’s also a CPU-z performance benchmark with a score of 609.9 points in single-core and 25,741 points in multi-core tests though it looks like the application is unable to take full advantage of the chip as the result is rather weak.

Intel’s 5th Gen Emerald Rapids CPUs for Xeon Data Center segment are expected to debut on the 14th of December and bring with them a range of improvements such as:

  • Up To 3x larger LLC cache
  • Increased Memory Speed
  • Higher CPU Core Count (Up To 64 Cores)
  • CXL Type 3 high bandwidth interface
  • Workload optimizations (Intel AE)
  • Optimized Power Mode
  • Up To 17% General Purpose Perf/Wat Increase
  • Offload CPU cores with Intel Accelerator Engines for Power Efficiency
  • Huge performance boost across inference and training
  • Intel AMX for built-in AI Acceleration
  • Out-of-box deployed with Optimized SW stacks

Regardless, the chip itself would be a nice uplift over the existing Sapphire Rapids chips and we will be able to see its performance by next month when the chip launches.
